Built for niche e-commerce and product brands

A broad store competes with everyone. A specific one competes with no one.

01

Commodity merch competes only on price.

A generic pet store fights everyone on shipping and discounts. That is a race to the bottom no small brand wins.

02

Without a niche, a catalogue is just noise.

Hundreds of products mean nothing if the buyer does not feel that this store was made for them specifically.

03

Belonging is what beats the big marketplace.

People pay more for a brand that feels made for them, not for the cheapest version of the same mug from a giant store.

The approach

Built to own a niche instead of renting traffic.

01

Built for one audience, on purpose.

Products, collections, copy, and community all speak to Finnish Lapphund people, not generic dog lovers.

02

A catalogue organized for belonging.

480 products and 14 collections structured around breed identity and seasonal shopping, not a flat, faceless product dump.

03

Community as a moat.

Meet the Pack, Join the Lappy Pack, and breed content turn one-time shoppers into a tribe that comes back.

04

Email that brings them back.

Klaviyo welcome and abandoned-checkout flows recover lost sales and build the repeat loyalty a niche brand runs on.

The story

The thinking behind the build

Lapphund Designs is a niche Shopify brand built around Finnish Lapphund owners and the emotional identity of the breed. The store’s strength is specificity: products, collections, copy, visuals, and community language all speak to Lappy people instead of generic dog lovers.

The business strategy is niche depth. Finnish Lapphund owners are a small but emotionally intense audience, which means the store wins by feeling more specific than a generic pet merch shop. The site has to carry breed pride, owner identity, and commerce clarity all at once.

The Shopify architecture supports scale: hundreds of product URLs, collection routes, blog content, pages, translated sitemap surfaces, cart/customer flows, and email automation. That gives the brand room to keep adding products without losing navigability.

From a conversion angle, the store relies on belonging and recognition. The buyer should feel, “this was made for people like me.” The more the site leans into Lappy-specific language, products, and community proof, the less it has to compete on commodity merch pricing.

The catalogue problem is real at this scale: 480 products would bury a casual shopper. Fourteen collections organized by product category and season keep the paths short, and the community pages, Meet the Pack and Join the Lappy Pack, give the store a heart that a grid of mugs never could. People arrive for a tumbler and stay for the pack.

The theme work is custom Liquid, CSS, and JavaScript on Shopify's Online Store architecture: responsive product and collection templates, cart and customer flows tuned for the catalogue's depth, and merchandising structure built for print-on-demand economics, where every design can fan out across apparel, drinkware, and gift formats without manual duplication.

The email layer runs on Klaviyo: a welcome flow that turns breed pride into a first order, and abandoned-checkout recovery that works the store's highest-intent moments automatically. For a niche brand, the list IS the moat; the store is built to grow it from the first visit.

The translated sitemap surfaces, English, Finnish, and French, roughly 1,520 URLs in total, match the audience's actual geography: the breed is Finnish, the owners are global, and the store meets them in their own language rather than assuming English-only commerce.

For a prospect, Lapphund Designs is the studio's Shopify practice in the wild: catalogue architecture, custom theme craft, lifecycle email, and international surfaces, all serving one lesson that transfers to any store: own a niche completely rather than competing broadly on price.

Why it converts

What a buyer feels when a store was clearly made for them.

Made for people like me

Breed-specific products and language make the buyer feel recognized, which beats price every time.

A real community

Pack pages and content turn a purchase into belonging, not just a transaction.

Reasons to come back

Email flows and fresh products keep the relationship going long past the first order.
